Someone once said… “Good things come to those who wait”. If that is true, then our new DB Plus is destined to become the most successful clubhead in the history of golf! This little bugger set the record for length of time from concept to market, but in its defense, there is a lot going on with this design.

Before being delivered in November of 2008 to just over 1600 people who put in their pre-orders, the DB Plus already had started building its legacy. Having just received the blessing from the USGA on conformity in mid October, we had a couple of clubheads left over from the testing and really had no time to get them in players hands before the 2008 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championships, except for our past world champion from New Zealand, who just came off her record setting victory in her National Championships.

She received the DB Plus, had it shafted up and loved it, in fact, her first time out on the world stage, she set a United States women’s driving distance record for the RE/MAX event at 349 yards. It is important to know that is a full 22 yards longer than her winning distance in 2006 with the SMT 455 Deep Bore! We can only think of one better ending to that story, but it was not meant to be. The DB Plus was on the tee box at the 2008 RE/MAX World Championship finals and grabbed 2nd place!

The DB Plus borrows design features from our two most popular models and adds in a bit of 21st century magic for the ultimate in playability, forgiveness and length. We borrowed part of the patented double forged crown on the Indio to lighten the center of the DB Plus crown but left the outer edges at full strength and thickness, thusly increasing the moment of inertia making the DB Plus the most stable head for off center shots in the SMT line. As long as we were at it, we took the size and forgiveness of the 455 Deep Bore and increased
that just a bit to make this clubhead as forgiving as possible. A deeper face than breadth measurement gives the appearance of a smaller head but actually it is the largest in the line, while the weight placement and blend of titanium used reduces excessive spin. This is one of the very few large clubheads on the market that plays true to stated loft with a solid piercing low spin ball flight. Truly a new sensation and new distance right from your very first tee shot.

This could be the biggest thing from SMT yet. Only time will tell.
